Benz Circle flyover put on fast track, to be ready in a year

Vijayawada: The second phase of construction works of the Benz Circle flyover are going on at a brisk pace as the pillars laying is underway near the busy Benz circle junction.

Vehicles coming from Varadhi towards Ramavappadu ring (Chenai-Kolkata) are moving on the existing old highway. Consequently, traffic problem persists during peak hours in the morning and evening. Commuters have to wait for 10 to 15 minutes to cross the Benz circle junction as heavy vehicles have to go through the highway. It is expected that it will take one year to complete the existing works, said an official supervising the works.

The second phase works are expected to complete as per the schedule in one year as the land acquisition works are completed.

If the second phase works are completed, the vehicles moving from Varadhi towards Ramavappadu (Chennai-Kolkata) can pass the flyover resolving the traffic problem to a great extent at the Benz Circle. For this, the commuters have to wait one more year to complete the project by National Highways Authorities of India. Scores of construction workers are using heavy machinery for laying the pillars as per the flyover design.

The second phase of works will cover 2.60 kms from Jyothi function hall to Dr Ramesh hospital junction. Lakshmi Infra Constructions is executing the works.

The Benz Circle junction is one of the busiest junctions in the city with the passing of more than 60,000 vehicles per day. It has been the long-pending demand of the commuters for the construction of the flyover. The first phase works delayed due to the administrative reasons and the land acquisition problem faced by the authorities. Now, there is a scope that the present works may be completed as per the schedule in one year.
