Minister for Youth Services and Sports Kollu Ravindra inaugurated the Fifth South Zone Sepaktakraw Championship logo at Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation (IGMC) stadium in the city on Monday.

Minister for Youth Services and Sports Kollu Ravindra inaugurated the Fifth South Zone Sepaktakraw Championship logo at Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation (IGMC) stadium in the city on Monday. Minister Ravindra also released the invitation brochure to mark the occasion. The South Zone event would be held in from August 28 to 30 in the city.

Speaking on the occasion Minister Ravindra said that the state government is giving top priority to provide infrastructure facilities in all rural and urban schools in the district. About 3,000 play fields development works are in progress with support of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Scheme (MGNREGS), he said.

With the cooperation of Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA and UD) urban area school’s play grounds would also be developed and the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) would discuss with concern officers on this subject, he added.

Ravindra has further said that the government would develop Amaravati, Visakhapatnam and Tirupati as sports cities and the state government would construct Sports City in 400 acre at Amaravati with international standards to host national and international events, he felt.

He informed that the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu would inaugurate 10 Sports Academies including four exclusively for Water sports in the state on August 15. The state government always gives support and encouragement for talented medalist and players like PV Sindhu and K Srikanth, he explained.

Referring to Sepak Takraw South Zone Championship, Minister Ravindra said that seven states would participate in this tournament which would be held at Dandamudi Rajagopala Rao Indoor stadium.

This tournament is very prestigious and hence all are requested to make it success, he said. Krishna District Sepak Takraw Association chairman Bonda Srinivasa Rao, president P Bala Murali Krishna, AP Sports and Yoga Coordinator Ravindra, SAAP Officer on Special Duty (OSD) P Rama Krishna, District Sports Development Officer (DSDO) B Srinivasa Rao, KDSTA secretary Simhadri Ramesh, vice-president Dr P Obul Reddy and others participated.
