Dairy, fisheries sectors also need alerts from Indian Meteorological Department: SVVU V-C Y Haribabu
Tirupati: Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University (SVVU) Vice-Chancellor (V-C) Y Haribabu has made an appeal to officials of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in their 12th annual review meeting to provide suitable weather alerts for dairy and fishery farmers too.
Addressing the delegates, who have attended the concluding session, the V-C opined that IMD scientists are focusing only on agricultural sector, when there is a big need for weather forecast to the fishery and dairy sectors, where thousands of farmers have been eking out their livelihood.
Later, Director (Research) of ANGRAU, Dr NV Naidu said that by issuing the advance weather forecast, ANGRAU is helping the farming community in protecting their crop yields from the nature disasters like drought and cyclones.
Some of the resolutions unanimously accepted in the meeting were Agro-Meteorological Field Units (AMFUs) should take suitable action for filling up of vacant posts and AFMUs should act as mentors in establishing and strengthening of agro-analysis by the District-level Agro-Meteorological Units (DAMUs). Senior scientists Dr T Prathima, Dr Ramakrishna Rao, Dr Sudhir and delegates from various parts of the country were present.
