Ever since the YSRCP came to power, the construction of Amaravathi capital has come to a halt. Minister Botsa said that Amaravathi is unsuitable for development and the cost of construction is high. However, the various departments in the government are reported to move to the other parts of the state to decentralise the administration.

As a part of this, recent speculation to move the secretariate to Velagapudi has been going on. During the tenure of Chandrababu, the Secretariat complex was built with an investment of Rs 200 crore. But there are many doubts about the quality of the construction.

About 2500 employees are working in the Secretariat. They are coming from Guntur, Vijayawada and Mangalagiri. Employees say that it is difficult to shuttle from Velagapudi from a long distance due to lack of transport facilities and accommodations.

Employees are asking the government to shift the secretariate to Mangalagiri and officials also asked Jagan to move the Secretariate to Mangalgiri area.

Jagan is said to be in discussions to move the Secretariat.
