AP government issues GO bring state police under EC limits

Amaravati: As the elections are nearing in the state, the AP government has issued an important GO.

In the GO, along with state DGP, all the police officials who are connected with the elections are now under the EC (Election Commission).

From DGP level to a constable, the government has issued GO bring everyone under the limits of EC. As per this order, till the elections counting process is over the state police will be under EC.

But the intelligence DG was given exemption in the GO issued by the state government. With this GO, the Election Commission has ordered the transfer of three top police officials in the state.

The state Chief Secretary has been asked to transfer DG (Intelligence) AB Venkateswara Rao, and SPs of Srikakulam and Kadapa districts Venkata Ratnam and Rahul Dev Sharma respectively with immediate effect.

As per the sources, The officers should hand over their respective charges to a senior-most official in their offices. They would be attached to the police headquarters and should not be given any election-related work.

In the first phase of 2019 general elections, The polling in AP will be conducted on 11 April for both the 25 Parliament and 175 Assembly seats and on May 23 the election counting and results will be declared.
