Visakhapatnam: May Day was celebrated here on Wednesday by Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) in the city. Greater Visakha Nagar Committee of CITU organised a workers' rally and held a public meeting at Dabagardens junction.

Speaking on the occasion, CITU State president Ch Narasinga Rao said that income must belong to workers who generate it. He added that May Day was celebrated to honour the sacrifices of many selfless workers who fought for rights of working class. CITU city secretary M Jaggunaidu informed that a week-long celebration would be organised to mark the significance of May Day. He stated that blood donation camps would be held on Friday and Saturday apart from cultural programmes which would mark the end of the celebrations on Tuesday at Beach Road.

Members of CITU, auto-rickshaw, transport, municipal, meter-readers' unions and others were present.
