Vijayawada: Dr Venu Gopal Reddy, popularly known as Dr VGR received Limca Book of Records for organising essay-writing competition to 35,000 students from 400 various schools and colleges to mark World Diabetes Day. Dr VGR received the award from Narsaraopet MP, L Sri Krishna Devarayulu at a programme held on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion, Devarayalu hailed the services of Dr VGR for organising awareness camps on diabetes to educate the people on the disease. He congratulated VGR on receiving the award and for organising essay-writing competition to the students to have basic knowledge on disease.

Dr VGR said thousands of awareness programmes have been organised on diabetes besides free health camps to the poor. Through various media like TV, Radio and Newspaper he was spreading awareness on diabetes and precautions to be taken to control the disease. Through their trust they have been helping poor students by giving scholarships, he said and added that about 30,000 saplings were planted by them as a social responsibility.

MLAs Malladi Vishnu, Undavalli Sridevi, Limca Book of Records representative Dr Venugopal Rao, World Book of Records B Narendra Goud, Genius Book of Records representative Dr GV Somayajulu and others were present on the occasion.
