Vijayawada: With floodwater from upstream going down from Sunday night, gates of all the reservoirs on Krishna river were closed completely on Tuesday. The flood situation is returning to normalcy as reservoirs register low inflows. The water is being discharged at a minimal level for power generation purpose only.

According to officials, all the gates were closed in Jurala, Srisailam, Nagarjunasagar, Pulichintala reservoirs and Prakasam barrage in AP and Telangana while water is being discharged only for power generation.

The water has drastically receded in the upstream reservoirs in Karnataka. Nearly 1.50 lakh cusecs are being discharged from Almatti while it has 1.64 lakh cusecs of inflows. As much as 121 tmcft water is available in Almatti as against its full storage capacity of 129 tmcft.

The Narayanapur project is receiving 1.83 lakh cusecs while 1.67 lakh cusecs is being discharged. The reservoir has 34.74 tmcft water as against its full storage capacity of 37 tmcft.

Jurala in Telangana is receiving 2.20 lakh cusecs while the 2.07 lakh cusecs is being discharged downstream. The water available in the dam is 9.52 tmcft as against its full storage capacity of 9.657 tmcft.

Srisailam reservoir is receiving 3.43 lakh cusecs of water and the 2.23 lakh cusecs is being let off to downstream. Now the storage in the project is 209.59 tmcft as against its full capacity of 215 tmcft.

Nagarjunasagar is receiving 1.80 lakh cusecs while it is releasing 1.47 lakh cusecs. Nearly 305.803 tmcft water is available in the reservoir as against its full storage capacity of 312 tmcft.

Subsequently, Dr. K L Rao Pulichintala reservoir is receiving 2.66 lakh cusecs of inflows while 2.62 lakh cusecs is being discharged to Prakasam barrage. Around 35.55 tmcft water is available in Pulichintala reservoir as against its full storage capacity of 45 tmcft.

Nearly 20,000 cusecs water is being discharged to canals in Krishna delta from Prakasam barrage. Several areas in the Krishna river course in Krishna and Guntur districts are returning to normalcy due to the receding of floodwater from low-lying areas.
