Kadapa: Due to drastic fall in sales, chicken shop owners in Kadapa district offered have offered 3kgs of chicken just for Rs 100 and a two kgs weighed live bird for Rs 50.

This type of pathetic situation has been prevailing for more than 40 days and the chicken shop owners stall owners have been offering various kinds of discounts to attract the consumers.

According to sources, there are 50 big and small chicken outlets in each of the towns like Rayachoti, Rajampet, Badvel, Proddaturu, Mydukuru, Nandaluru and Pulivendula. There are about 100 chicken shops in Kadapa city. About 1.50lakh kg of chicken is being sold every day in the district. At least 3 lakh people including chicken venders either directly or indirectly depend on poultry industry. These people are badly hit due to coronavirus.

Sales of chicken meat have come down drastically as rumours were spread that consumption of chicken meat will lead to ill health.

Though officials have launched campaign stating that consumption of chicken will not do any harm to the health, there was no improvement in the sales of chicken.

"I have never witnessed such worst situation during my 18 year experience in chicken business. Earlier I used to sell 300 kgs of chicken per day. But presently, I am unable to sell even 50 kgs per day due to lack of interest by consumers,'' said owner of Ravi Chicken Centre B Ravindra Reddy to Hans India. "I was earning Rs 400 per day by working in the chicken stall, now I lost my job as there was no work in the shop,''said SK Rahamtullah who worked at the chicken centre.
