Vijayawada: District Collector Md Imtiaz instructed the officials to be on high alert and implement the action plan to supply drinking water to people in view of the falling ground water levels in the district.

He conducted an emergency review meeting with the officials of irrigation, Panchayat Raj, irrigation, Municipal and other departments at the Sub-collector's meeting hall on Wednesday.

The collector enquired about the water levels in the reservoirs also. He said there was no problem for drinking water in the district till May 30. He said drinking water is being supplied to 2,484 rural habitations in the district and drinking water supplied to 389 summer storage tanks with canals and lift irrigation schemes.

He said the existing water reserves will last till May 30 and hoped there will be rains due to onset of monsoon by June second week.

He made it clear the model code of conduct is no hurdle for drinking water problems and asked the officials to use the grants to repair borewells and to meet other expenses.
