Srikakulam: Pre-school education and child care activities have been hit at Anganwadi centres due to Covid-19 lockdown. There are 2,955 Anganwadi centres in the district and the the Integrated Child Development Society (ICDS) is managing these centres. There are a total number of 90,000 children from 0 to six years age in them.

At these Anganwadi centres train children up to 3 years of age trained in playing with dolls etc. From 3 to 6 years of age, pre-schooling is provided to the children like learning of numbers, Telugu, English alphabet etc.

In the wake of lockdown, a total 2,955 Anganwadi centres have been closed since March 22 and only nutritious food is being supplied to the children at their doorstep for every 15 days. Out of total 2,955 Anganwadi centres, 1,200 centres are being maintained in the government buildings and 1,755 are being run in rented buildings. The State government is planning to provide own buildings for all Anganwadi centres in the district. Anganwadi staff and teachers guiding the parents of the children in pre-school education as the parents in turn trained their children. "We have taken all measures to distribute nutritious food to the children a per menu and also for pre-school training in the wake of lockdown" Project Director of the ICDS G JayaDevi explained to The Hans India.
