Ongole: Prakasam district Transport Commissioner B Krishnaveni said that road safety measures should be taken to avoid accidents and save lives in the district. She organized a meeting with concerned officials on the implementation of road safety measures at the district collectorate on Thursday. The DTC advised the officials to focus on reducing the number of accidents on the highways.

She said that they conducted a survey of 50 major roads in the district in view of road safety measures. She said that awareness on road safety should be created among the drivers and reflectors should be installed on the lorries, tractors and other transport vehicles.

She ordered the officials to take action on the drivers who are violating the road safety rules and guidelines and book cases on them. She requested the concerned authorities to cooperate in controlling accidents on the state and national highways and advised the officials to set up advisories on black spots and flex boards of hospitals along the highways.

He asked the owners of the cows and buffaloes to paint their horns with radium or reflector stickers and see no animal come onto roads. She asked the concerned officials to remove encroachments on the roadside to avoid accidents.

Additional SP B Ravichandra, RTO Chandrasekhar Reddy, RTC RM G Vijaya Geetha, DMHO Dr Ratnavali, Ongole RDP Prabhakar Reddy, municipal engineer P Sundararami Reddy, NHAI officials, MVIs and other officials also participated in the meeting.
