Tirupati: The urban police recovered 17 high-end motorbikes worth Rs 17 lakh on Wednesday from burglars in various cases.

According to SP A Ramesh Reddy, the SV University police have arrested six youth, Sake Dinesh, Samu Vamsi, K Purushottam Reddy, S Chandra, S Vamsi and P Vikram in connection with 17 cases.

The SP told the accused were roaming as a gang and stealing bikes from Tirupati surroundings Madanapalli and Railway Koduru. Interestingly, they had stolen high-end bikes like Royal Enfield, Yamha RxG and other costly bikes. During investigation, the accused confessed to their crime.

Acting on tip-off, the SV University police arrested the accused near Vikuntapuram arch on Wednesday. During investigation, the police found the accused were involved in 17 motorbikes stolen cases under MR Palli, East, Tiruchanuru, RC Puram, Renigunta, Madanapalli, Railway Kodur police stations. Police sent the accused to judicial remand on the same day.

The SP announced that from Thursday onwards if people come on road without wearing masks as per Covid-19 rules, they will be fined Rs 500. In this regard, the urban police will start special drive in Tirupati city from June 17, he added.
