Visakhapatnam: Education gives self-confidence to women and every girl should get educated, Principal of Dr B R Ambedkar College of Law, Andhra University S Sumitra said here on Friday. Participating as chief guest at the International Women's Day (IWD-2020) celebrations held at Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL) at Mohapatra Manasi Auditorium, she spoke about the strengths of women and their achievements.
President of Mahila Kalyan Manch (MKM) Lalithamai Nandagopan inaugurated the celebrations.
Chairperson of IWD-2020 N Usha Rani' said that women employees in Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) were playing a vital role in making policies.
The guest of honor Air Traffic Controller, Indian Navy Lt Cdr P Swathi shared her 196-days experience and motivated the viewers to empower girl children with freedom and help them achieve success in their area of interest.
Director NSTL O R Nandagopan explained how DRDO encourages women employees by providing opportunities in enhancing their careers. He lauded women's role in various phases of life. On the occasion, Bal Puraskar Awardees A Sai Samhita and M. Sharanya were felicitated. NSTL women employees and members of MKM donated Rs.25,000 worth of clothes, home appliances to 'Bangarutalli Vriddhashramam'. A free medical camp was also held for NSTL employees.
