Kolar: In a dramatic turn of events, Kolar district was rocked by violence as the police opened fire on three accused individuals involved in the brutal murder of Congress leader M Srinivas in Srinivaspura.

The incident, which occurred a day after the heinous crime, left three policemen injured and the suspects in custody. Meanwhile, a manhunt is underway for three more individuals linked to the murder.

The police's initial investigation points towards an age-old rivalry and a simmering land dispute between the deceased, M Srinivas, and the prime suspect, Venugopal. This deadly feud had its origins in a long-standing dispute over property along the Hogalagere Road, located on the outskirts of Srinivaspur.

Srinivas was in the process of constructing a bar and restaurant on the disputed land, a move that evidently irked Venugopal and reportedly led to the fatal attack on Monday.

It's noteworthy that both Srinivas were closely associated with former Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker Ramesh Kumar and present Home Minister of Karnataka, Dr. G Parameshwara.

On Monday, Srinivas was travelling along Hogalagere Road, seemingly to oversee the progress of his under-construction establishment. At this juncture, six assailants on motorcycles ambushed him, assaulting him with sharp weapons in a gruesome act. The attack targeted his chest and stomach, causing severe injuries. The assailants swiftly fled the scene, leaving Srinivas in a pool of his own blood.

The wounded leader was rushed to Jalappa Hospital in Kolar, but his injuries proved to be fatal, ultimately leading to his tragic demise.

In the aftermath of the incident, several political leaders, including Dr. G Parameshwara, Ramesh Kumar, and Food and Civil Supplies Minister K H Muniyappa paid their respects to the deceased and expressed their condolences to the grieving family.

As this harrowing case unfolds, the local authorities are working tirelessly to bring justice to the late M Srinivas and his bereaved family. A dedicated police force is currently investigating the matter and, in the wake of a violent confrontation with the accused, has managed to apprehend the prime suspect, Venugopal, and his associates, Munindra and Santhosh. A comprehensive manhunt is now underway for three more individuals believed to be involved in the murder.
