Bathukamma sarees distribution begins at Musheerabad constituency

Musheerabad: On the eve of Bathukamma, Musheerabad circle Deputy Commissioner Uma Prakash organised Bathukamma saree distribution for six divisions of Musheerabad constituency at Heritage Function Hall here on Tuesday. Former Home Minister Naini Narsimha Reddy was invited as the chief guest. Local MLA Muta Gopal, corporators V Srinivas Reddy, Muta Padma Naresh and others attended the programme.

Speaking on the occasion, Naini praised the State government for initiating innovative welfare programmes. He said that no other State government in the country distributes free sarees to women. He alleged that Congress and Communist parties spread rumours last year that poor quality sarees were distributed and burnt sarees after buying them from women. Women realised the conspiracy of the parties and have taught a lesson in the elections, he said.

Uma Prakash said that about 15.4 lakh sarees would be distributed to women in 30 circles of the city. She said that 59,562 sarees would be distributed in Musheerabad circle to all women who are above 18, irrespective of religion and caste, through various ration shops. About 1.02 crore beneficiaries across the State will receive Bathukamma sarees this year, she said.
