Hyderabad: GHMC plans to distill the drains in the wake of rainy season in the Greater Hyderabad city limits at an estimated amount of Rs 38.24 crore. In the GHMC limits, about one thousand kilometers is covered with dirt channels and rainwater drains, 216 major drains and 735 km of pipelines and small size drains.

GHMC completed the tender process for the work with Rs 38.24 crore, in which it's planning to distill the major pipelines using advanced machineries and recyclers for small size drains. Earlier, GHMC used to distill the drains only a month ago of monsoon season and due to uncompleted works it's received several criticisms from the public. But now GHMC to avoid such situations it's pitched to distill the drains throughout the year.

As part of this, tenders for 327 drains distillation processed at an estimated cost of Rs 38.24 crores and work is being processed. In this 327, 83 major drains will be distilled with machines, 23 drains with the help of recyclers and 214 small drains manually being distilled and the engineering wing of GHMC will be responsible for the work.

GHMC Commissioner M Dana Kishore issued instructions to the engineering department to complete 100 percent of the works by May end and before monsoon in the current year. Works should be continuing even after the May if the need occurs due to rains. Dana Kishore said that the tasks should be transparent and reduces causing discomfort to public and prevents environmental pollution.

Commissioner also said to avoid any type of allegations in the process of work GHMC is taking social audits. He ordered the engineering department to take a confirm note about the details of the labors indulged into work, quantity of the mud removed and shifted to dumping yards from the prominent people in the area. The works of 92.10 km have been completed in the Greater Hyderabad and the rest will be processed soon.

The waste collected from the drains and the mud will be shifted to nearby dumping yard by the contractor. GHMC plans to complete the distillation works by this month-end and will be also carried out even later if it is needful.
