Hyderabad: A high-level committee headed by GHMC Mayor Dr B Rammohan along with Principal Secretary of MAUD Arvind Kumar has visited the collection points and processing units of waste management in New Delhi. The committee consisted of GHMC Commissioner Lokesh Kumar, Director of Vigilance and Enforcement department Vishwajeet Kampati. The committee was guided by Gowtham Reddy, CEO of Ramky Enviro Engineers and their representatives.

The committee has visited the collection point in GTB Nagar in Delhi to understand the technology used for collecting the solid waste through portable compactor operations. It observed the technology used for collecting the solid waste through portable compactor operations which prevent littering or spillage. Wastage is easy to transport in compacted manner and there is flexibility to transport as more waste can be carried per trip.

The committee also studied transportation, processing of municipal waste using technologies in tandem for composting, waste to energy, leachate management, land fill management, green belt, infrastructure and disposal of residues.

The CEO of Ramky explained pollution control measures such as flue gas emission control, ash handling system which used for course material in road construction and neutralized effluent from Water Treatment in the largest Plant.

The Mayor has directed the GHMC officers to prepare a detailed project report based on the population in each ward, number of collection points, transportation, and maintenance of the collection points.

The MAUD Secretary said that a micro plan should be prepared to initially present the outlay of the project and focus on the community involvement, large-scale plantation in the plant area. The committee also discussed the generation and distribution of power from the waste and also the compost distribution.

Gowtham Reddy said that the waste segregation carried out by the GHMC is far better than that used by any other municipality in the country. The committee discussed strategies to adopt the waste management system and its challenges. GHMC Special Commissioner Sujatha Guptha, solid waste management executive engineer Srinivas Reddy, Mahendar Reddy and others comprised the team.
