Students allege outsiders entered hostel rooms and beat up some of them

Hyderabad: Mild tension prevailed at Arts College, Osmania University, when the student leaders of ABVP and NSUI protested against the outsiders who entered the hostel campus and allegedly manhandled the ABVP students.

Some students belonging to ABVP cadre were allegedly beaten up by the TRS party workers who forcefully entered their hostel rooms. The protesters demanded stern action against such attackers.

Meanwhile, some students tore up a flexi of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and tried to set it on fire, but were stopped by the police. There was verbal altercation between the protesters and the police, which went on for a few hours.

According to police, the student leaders alleged physical abuse by some men and they started protesting against it. B Srikanth, Sub-Inspector of OU PS, noted, "If the students had filed a complaint against such behaviour by any persons then we would have taken action, but they did not file any complaint nor did they give us any notice earlier about the protest which they planned.

However, we got to know through the intelligence sources that some students planned to protest and for this reason we increased the force."

"As soon as the students started gathering, the officers spoke to them and assured to take action against the perpetrators, but they did not pay any heed to their words and continued with sloganeering. In order to maintain peace and law and order, we had to call in more forces and pickup trucks were called in and later on the protesters were taken away from the campus. They were were released by the evening," added the officer.
