Kachiguda: Telangana State Panchayatraj Sarpanches Association has demanded that the state government cancel the policy of giving joint cheque power to sarpanches and vice-sarpanches. The association held its general body meeting here on Monday.

Speaking at the meeting, president of the association Saudani Bhoomanna Yadav said that the development of villages was stalled due to the joint cheque power being shared between sarpanch and vice-sarpanch. This decision had already resulted in friction between sarpanches and vice-sarpanches and would create problems in rural administration in future, he said.

He urged the government to release rewards announced for unanimous sarpanches. He demanded the hike in honorarium being paid to sarpanches from Rs 5,000 to Rs 20,000 and cancel the freezing method being used in fund utilization. He also demanded the state government to allocate special funds to village panchayats.
