Jaipur: From the day that Patanjali Ayurved launched its Coronil medicine claiming that it could be used to treat the novel coronavirus pandemic, it has found itself in the thick of a major controversy. After a complaint was lodged in Bihar against Baba Ramdev and his Patanjali Ayurved, now an FIR has been filed in Jaipur against the yoga guru, Acharya Balakrishna who is the CEO of Patanjali Ayurved, and four others, according to media reports.
The complainant alleges in the FIR that by propagating the drug Coronil made by Patanjali Ayurved as a cure for the COVID-19 infection, Baba Ramdev was 'misleading people'.
Baba Ramdev launched the Ayurvedic drug, Coronil on Tuesday, with great fanfare. However, the claims of the yoga guru that the drug could cure the COVID-19 pandemic ran into choppy waters soon with the AyushMinistry putting a ban on its advertising. The Ministry directed Baba Ramdev to stop advertising the drug as a cure for COVID-19 and sought further information on the trials conducted by Patanjali Ayurvedbefore making such claims.
Others named in the FIR lodged on Friday in Jyoti Nagar police station of Jaipur are said to be the CEO of Patanjali Ayurved, Acharya Balakrishna, NIMS chairman Balbir Singh Tomar, Director Anurag Tomar and scientist Anurag Varshney.
The Uttarakhand authorities had, meanwhile, clarified that they had not permitted Patanjali Ayurved to market the drug as a cure for coronavirus. They further said that Baba Ramdev's firm had not mentioned coronavirus at the time of applying for a licence.
