Jammu & Kashmir: Security Forces Eliminate 2 Terrorists in Pulwama

Security forces eliminated two terrorists in an encounter in the early hours of Tuesday in Bandzoo area of South Kashmir's Pulwama district. One member of the CRPF personnel is also said to have lost his life in the firing by terrorists.

Two AK-47 rifles were reported to have been recovered from the site of the encounter. The encounter is said to be ongoing.

In the firing by the terrorists, the CRPF head constable was said to have been critically injured. Later, he succumbed to the injuries inflicted by gunshot wounds when terrorists opened fire during the operation.

Media reports stated that a joint team of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, 55 Rashtriya Rifles of the Indian the Army and the CRPF launched a cordon-and-search-operation in Bandzoo of South Kashmir's Pulwama district. As soon as the security forces encircled the area where the terrorists had been holed up, they were fired upon by the militants. Security forces retaliated killing two terrorists. A CRPF head constable received serious gunshot wounds and succumbed to the injuries later.

Over the past few weeks, security forces have successfully neutralised close to thirty well-trained terrorists in South Kashmir, with Pakistan trying to up the ante after the abrogation of Article 370 in the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir. The theatre of terrorist activity has now shifted mainly to South Kashmir, in Shopian and Pulwama districts. Vigilant security forces have thwarted repeated attempts by Pakistan to push well-trained militants across the Line of Control (LoC) in recent months and have eliminated several such terrorists who managed to sneak into the Valley.
