Hyderabad: Stage has been set for the pulse polio immunisation programme in the twin cities on Sunday. Children between the age group of 0-5 years will be administered the pulse polio drops as part of the programme. Dr K Narendrudu, District Medical Officer, Hyderabad, informed that Health Minister Kondru Murali Mohan will launch the programme at Chintal Basti Urban Primary Health Centre. Mayor Mohd Majid Hussain will administer the polio drops to children at Sayednagar Urban Primary Health Centre.

Health teams will make door-to-door visits from January 20 to 22 to immunise the children who missed on the first day.

“We will set up 3,208 booths. For each booth four vaccinators have been allotted,” Dr Narendrudu said.

For the last 3 years not even a single polio case was registered in the country. It was a great achievement, he stated.

The district officer, Ranga Reddy, Dr K Sudhakar said all arrangements had been completed in the Ranga Reddy district (including some city areas like Uppal) for conducting the immunisation programme.

He also said 2,794 pulse polio booths would be set up in the Ranga Reddy area and 12,000 employees would be deployed for smooth functioning of the programme. “ The district collector and higher officials may attend the pulse polio programme either at Chevella or at Moinabad health centres. In all 7, 12,461 children will be administered pulse polio drops,” he said.
