Relationships have a rhythm of their own. If you hurry them then they often fall flat. Yes, relationships that have so much spark that they work in a short while make terrific love stories. But is trying to brew these lovely love stories a great idea? No.
Never rush. Read these pointers to check if you are rushing the relationship!
You have time only for talking to him/her
You know each other two weeks and you are already spending all your free time together. If you’re not together, you’re texting, or Tweeting or using some kind of electronic device to get in touch. You’ve practically changed your whole routine to make more time for each other.
You forget your daily responsibilities
A special someone in your life can make you forget your other contacts and friends! Check your mobile phone on a fine day. Does most of your call log carry his/her name?
Chances are you have been going too fast with your new relationship that you have left everything else in the dust. Look around your house. Are there vessels lying unclean for a long time? Are there bills you have delayed paying for too long? It is time to slow down with your new lover.
You are still on your best behaviour
You are already talking about going to Paris next summer. You are talking about your taste in home interiors. You still have not dropped the public persona with the person in question. If you are afraid to totally be yourself, and are still in the ‘date mode’ in which you’re trying to make an impression then discussions about a future for this relationship can wait.
Surprises start coming
As you get to spend more time with the person you tend to lower your guards and likewise the person also show you his true self. Suddenly the person you thought was everything you’ve ever wanted reveals he wants 12 kids, that he hates cats or that he will never be happy unless he moves to Brazil someday.
You are in denial
When relationships move too fast, you tend to invest a lot before you even know what you’re getting into. Once you’ve made certain investments—emotional investments, time investments, maybe even changing your life by moving in together after two months—it gets harder and harder to be honest with yourself about what you really want, and if this is it. If push aside the doubts crossing your mind just to feel comfortable then it is a sign of denial.
