Hyderabad: The officials of the forest department have clutched Red Sandalwood of worth Rs 40L near Jayampy of Balayapalli mandal in Nellore district. The Forest Department officials upon receiving the vital information have chased the Lorries carrying as many as 200 logs of Red Sandalwood, and took hold of them. However, the smugglers have fled from the setting leaving the Lorries on the spot. The value of the detained Red Sandalwood is approximately Rs 40L, added the officials.
It is learnt that the smugglers are reportedly supported by the top rank politicians who in turn pressurize the officials also. Nellore district has become the vital district for Red Sandalwood smuggling. In the last two months only, many such cases have been revealed. Also, news made rounds a few days before that younger brother of Kiran Kumar Reddy, the former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, was also involved in this rocket.
