Visakhapatnam: Gitam University’s engineering student I Krishna Sai is among the top 10 in the Indian innovators list under the India Innovation Growth Programme (IIGP).

With his industrial engineering knowledge base I Krishna Sai has designed a shoe with an electronic circuit, which helps the visually impaired people to walk by sensing obstacles up to three metres.

Krishna has applied for a patent for his design. He received best innovator award from IIGP during ‘Innovators’ competition in DST-Lockheed Martin India Innovation Growth Programme-2014 which was held from May 20 to May 22 at New Delhi.

The IIGP is a joint initiative of the Department of Science and Technology, Govt of India; Lockheed Martin Corporation; Indo-US Science and Technology Forum, Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry; Stanford Graduate School of Business and the IC2 Institute at the University of Texas. The aim of this programme is to accelerate innovative Indian technologies into the global market. The recognition from Government of India allows him to get professional business development assistance from FICCI and from the University of Texas. The business development managers at FICCI would assist the top 10 Indian innovators in commercialising their technological innovations and finding them suitable business partners in India as well as global markets. For this purpose Krishna was also selected for the 2014 IIGP Silicon Valley Cohort and will be visiting Stanford Graduate School of Business. He is the only student selected by Government of India under IIGP-2014 programme.
