Torez: A Ukrainian train carrying bodies from the Malaysia Airlines plane crash has left the station of the town of Torez on Monday.

Pro-Russian rebels controlling the crash site have agreed for the remains to be taken to the city of Kharkiv to be later flown to the Netherlands.

Earlier, Ukraine’s deputy prime minister said the train would travel to the eastern city of Kharkiv before the bodies would be taken to the Netherlands.Dutch public prosecutor's office said it had opened a preliminary criminal probe into the downing of flight MH17 over rebel-held Ukraine, which left 298 people dead, most of them Dutch. "An officer from the prosecutor's office, Thijs Berger, is in Kiev at the moment," spokesman Wim de Bruin told AFP. Under Dutch law, the Netherlands can prosecute war crimes suspects, even for alleged crimes committed abroad, if one or more victims is Dutch.

There were 193 Dutch citizens on the doomed plane, which is believed to have been brought down by a missile fired by pro-Russian separatists. Rebels have been accused of hindering access to the crash site and bodies since the plane came down on Thursday. Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk wants Netherlands to lead the international inquiry. Intense shelling broke out again near Donetsk on Monday. Clashes involving heavy weapons are continuing near the city's airport and the railway station, eyewitnesses say. At least three civilians were reported killed, and one multi-storey building was seen on fire.

At the Torez station, close to Donetsk, an AFP reporter witnessed the Dutch investigators, wearing masks and headlights, open each of the train wagons holding the remains of recovered bodies, amid an overpowering stench Malaysia Airlines said it would provide an assistance of USD 5,000 to cover the initial expenses of families of 283 passengers aboard the flight
