Agriculture Minister P Pulla RaoHyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Agriculture Minister P Pulla Rao has announced said that only the farmers in the areas hit by drought and cyclone, which were notified last year, are eligible for the rescheduling of their loans in the ensuing Kharif season.

Addressing the press here, he said as per the RBI guidelines, all the farmers affected badly in the drought and heavy rain-hit areas would get fresh loans without the repayment of their debts to the banks this year. The farmers in the non-notified areas should repay the debts to get fresh loans from the financial institutions, but they too need not worry as the government would reimburse the amount repaid by the farmers under the loan waiver scheme.

Reiterating that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu was committed to implement the loan waiver scheme in true spirit, Pulla Rao claimed TDP government was the first in the country to waive the loans taken by farmers through mortgage of gold.

Responding to the allegations made by the YSR Congress Party, the Minister asked opposition leader Y S Jaganmohan Reddy to stop politicising the loan waiver scheme and cooperate with the government for the well-being of farmers. State Forest and Environment Minister B Gopala Krishna Reddy was also present.
