New Delhi: The TRS MPs on Tuesday called on Union Chemicals and Fertilizers Minister Ananth Kumar and Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, seeking a gas linkage for the fertilizer unit in Ramagundam in Telangana, in order to revive it.

The TRS MPs initially met Chemicals and Fertilizers Minister Ananth Kumar, but he advised them to meet Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, also, as gas linkage is handled by the Petroleum Ministry.

The TRS MPs urged the Chemicals and Fertilizers Minister to sort out issues relating to the pricing policy and to direct the NFL and the EIL to revamp the Ramagundam Fertilizer Plant in the next 30 months, by when gas could be made available.

In the memorandum to the Union Ministers, the TRS MPs argued that urea production was not sufficient and it was being imported largely from the Gulf. To step up domestic production, gas linkage would help restart the fertilizer unit in Ramagundam.

The total urea requirement in districts like Karimnagar, Adilabad, Nizamabad, Warangal and Medak is around 10 lakh tonnes.
