Hyderabad: Welfare of the Backward Classes (BCs), Minorities and SC and ST communities would be given utmost priority in the annual budget for 2014-15 to be presented by the AP government in the Assembly soon, State Finance Minister Y Ramakrishnudu said on Tuesday.

The Minister held a meeting with Social Welfare Minister R Kishore Babu, Civil Supplies Minister P Sunitha, BC Welfare Minister K Ravindra and Irrigation Minister D Uma Maheshwara Rao to seek department-wise estimates for the annual outlay for this year. He said Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu was contemplating to launch BC Sub-Plan on the lines the SC and ST Sub-Plan, which would be taken up for the total utilisation of funds earmarked for the welfare of the community.

He added improving the living standards of Minorities, providing all civic amenities in the SC and ST colonies, and ensuring good future to the children of the poor communities would be their government’s priority in the budget estimations.

Stating that required funds would be allotted for the speedy completion of the irrigation projects, the Minister directed the irrigation department to take up works at Polavaram project as the Centre already promised to extend all financial assistance under AIBP (Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme). The revival of village-level irrigation water societies would also be done, he added.
