Sangita Reddy Joint Managing Director Apollo HospitalsHyderabad: Apollo Hospitals on Thursday signed an agreement with Bangalore-based Strand Life Sciences, which will enable the healthcare major to offer better clinical genomic tests to its patients. The tests would be offered in the areas of oncology, cardiovascular, heritable eye diseases and rare genetic disorders.

These tests, which will be integrated into clinical practice by Apollo's subsidiary, are expected to help doctors diagnose disease more precisely, identify the optimal treatment and monitor treatment course for better outcomes. The cost of the tests ranges from Rs 15,000 to Rs 40,000 depending on the nature and specifications. Patient samples will be sent to the Strand Life’s centre for genomic analysis.

“Introduction of genomic tests would help Apollo diagnose and treat patients with more precision,” Sangita Reddy, Joint Managing Director, Apollo Hospitals, told media here.

This partnership will also help Sapien in setting up a bio-bank, which will be useful in easy diagnosis of diseases.

“Genetic diagnostic is not new but what we want to do is actively involve the doctors in all possible ways with the latest technology,” said Sreevatsa Natarajan, CEO, Sapien Biosciences. The genomic revolution is helping expanding clinical genomics as a new paradigm for clinical decisions, according to Dr Vijay Chandru, Chairman and CEO, Strand Life Sciences.

“Through this agreement Strand Centre will expand its presence in India, as Apollo has a large number of hospitals located across the country,” he added.

Strand Life Sciences has a wide network of clinics in Asia and Africa and has tie up with more than 50 hospitals in Asia, Africa and USA.
