Hyderabad: After the ruckus created by bogus ration and Aadhar cards, Telangana government decided to fix the problem by issuing citizen cards to the natives of Telangana. The cards will be issued by taking up “door-to-door verification” along the lines of issuing the passport. The main axiom behind this decision is to ensure that the welfare schemes offered by the government reach the real beneficiaries. There are 22 lakh cards in excess when compared with total households in the state.

K. Chandrasekhar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, held a conference with the executives of the civil supplies department and directed them to issue ration cards only after visiting and inspecting each household. He said the government would conduct random scrutiny of households later to cross check the authenticity of the issued cards and warned that the officials responsible will be held accountable, if bogus cards are found.

The Telangana government has decided to abolish the existing ration cards issued in the united Andhra Pradesh state and issue fresh cards with “Telangana State logo” from next month. Once the spurious cards are eliminated, the government can save crores of public wealth, further delivering subsidized food items to poor and needy resourcefully.
