The duo are now undergoing treatment at SCR Railway Hospital, Lalaguda, after being beaten up by a furious mob post the accident on Thursday.

“We noticed the school bus coming towards the unmanned level crossing at Masaipet from hundred yards away and started sounding the horn.

The bus driver noticed the fast approaching train and tried to speed past the crossing instead of stopping, which resulted in the collision and the bus being dragged on the track for 25 metres.

ASV Koteshwar Rao Asst Loco PilotThough we had applied the brakes to avoid the accident, the damage was done. We were shocked to see the aftermath at the accident site. Had we attempted to stop the train ignoring the safety guidelines, risking the lives of passengers in the train, and the train itself, as it might have derailed,” one of the pilots said.

KM Satyanaryana joined as assistant loco pilot in 2006 and was promoted in 2012. AVS Koteshwar Rao joined as assistant loco pilot in 2013.
