20 cattle killed as truck overturns, A truck carrying cattle from Vijayawada to a slaughterhouse in Hyderabad turned turtle in Abdullapurmet area under Hayathnagar police limits on Sunday killing as many as 20 bovines.
Hyderabad: A truck carrying cattle from Vijayawada to a slaughterhouse in Hyderabad turned turtle in Abdullapurmet area under Hayathnagar police limits on Sunday killing as many as 20 bovines.
According to police, Bajrang Dal activists came to know that cows were being transported illegally to a slaughterhouse. They tried to intercept the truck (AP 12 V 6766), which was packed with around 30 cattle, near Gandimasaiamma Temple in Abdullapurmet. The driver tried to circumvent them and in the process lost control over the vehicle. The truck driver escaped unhurt in the accident. Fearing attack by Bajrang Dal activists, he fled from the scene. While 20 animals died, many suffered fractures and minor injuries. A case was registered against the truck driver for illegal transportation and over-loading the truck. As per the rules a maximum of 15 cattle are permitted in a truck. A little later, police seized another truck (KA 07 A 1522) transporting cows illegally on the same stretch on Sunday.
