Discussions key to resolution of contentious issues: Venkaiah, Union Minister for Urban Development M Venkaiah Naidu on Sunday said free and frank deliberations sitting across the table would pave a way out. Only discussions would resolve 1956 cut-off issue or any other thing for that matter, he added.

Hyderabad: In order to resolve the contentious issues between States of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, Union Minister for Urban Development M Venkaiah Naidu on Sunday said free and frank deliberations sitting across the table would pave a way out. Only discussions would resolve 1956 cut-off issue or any other thing for that matter, he added.
Speaking to reporters here, he felt that any decision should not violate the spirit of the constitution. He refuted allegations from Telangana employees unions that NDA government had bowed down to political pressure of TDP-led AP government.
'Narendra Modi is not a leader who would yield to pressure tactics of any political party including TDP', he said. On farm loan waiver in two States, he said the Centre had no role in the promises made to people of both States. The decisions were taken by the two governments, he reminded. On Sania Mirza being appointed as brand ambassador of Telangana State, the Minister said Sania was a great tennis player and it was State government's prerogative whom to appoint its brand ambassador. If the administration here feels Sania was the right person and she can represent interests of the State better, so be it, he added.
Don't make self-goals, Naidu tells Cong
Meanwhile, Naidu lashed out at Congress party for their continuous criticism of the newly-formed Modi government at the Centre. Accusing Congress of indulging in unfair criticism on the Leader of Opposition (LoP) issue, Naidu asserted that the matter was in the purview of the Lok Sabha Speaker. He took strong exception to Congress leader Anand Sharma's reaction that the Attorney General's reported opinion was ‘not worth the paper on which it was written’. Recalling that LoP status was not given during Congress regimes earlier, Naidu said the Congress should explain the reasons for doing so before raising questions. He said, there was no proposal to cut short the Budget session of Parliament and the government would bring in several important Bills in the coming days. Naidu advised Congress party not to make self-goals on each issue whether it was price rise, BRICS meeting, power woes or increased weightage for English in Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT). These were a result of ten-year rule of the previous UPA regime, but not the newly-formed NDA, he pointed out.
