Hyderabad: A sigh of relief for the engineering aspirants as the Higher Education Council finally took a step to conduct the engineering counselling after much delay in the process.

The Common Entrance Tests committee met here on Monday at Higher Education Council office and decided to start the process of counselling. A notification in this regard will be issued on July 30, certificates verification process will commence from August 7.
The Supreme Court, while hearing a petition filed by the Telangana Government seeking an extension for counselling process to October has made it clear that the couselling will not be stopped by the court.
In the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision, the council took an initiative to start the counselling process with verification of certificates as the first step. A detailed schedule of options entry will be notified later.
“This will build some sort of pressure on both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh governments to issue GOs regarding the admissions,” said LV Reddy, chairman, Higher Education Council.
“The indecisiveness over fee reimbursement, GOs from both governments on NRI quota and GOs on approval of new colleges in both States has delayed the process of CET counselling. We were firm on conducting the counselling, but governments delayed it. The Andhra Pradesh government has informed the council that they would follow fee reimbursement scheme,” Reddy said.
According to EAMCET rules, 70 per cent of seats should be filled through convener quota and the remaining should be filled on basis of merit in management quota.
On the management quota admissions, the chairman made it clear that admissions should commence after issuance of orders from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh governments and competent authority. “The Andhra Pradesh High Court has increased the number of NRI seats from five per cent to 15 per cent. We are waiting for the GOs to be issued from the State governments,” LV Reddy informed.
The chairman quashed claims of pressure from the Andhra Pradesh government to conduct the counselling. “There is no pressure from the government and council can take any decision. All these days we were waiting for the dust to settle and government to issue GOs. We are expecting a positive outcome from the Supreme Court on conducting the counselling,” Reddy added.
There are about 60 helpline centres in both states and candidates can walk into any helpline centre for verification of certificates.
