Well, that’s the best part of the monsoons. With India being a masala-loving country, one is spoilt for choices.

Kadak chai or masala chai

Zyada chai piogi to kali hojaogi’ is the saying all Indian kids hear from their moms since childhood. Good news for you is that your request can be given ear to during this monsoon.

Kadak chai or masala chai is a perfect beverage in this season. Cardamom and cinnamon used in preparing masala tea also will keep away throat infections and cold. Away from home? Stop by at a tea stall and grab a hot cuppa for yourself.

Mirchi Pakora.

Mirchi pakora with freshly cut onion and fried peanuts accompanied with coconut chutney or with mirchi pakora with tamarind chutney are the best combinations available. As told earlier, avoid having them on streets. The mirchi pakoras with onion and fried peanuts can be easily found in Sindhi Colony and Dr AS Rao Nagar stretch whereas the other one is available at Sitaphalmandi.

Chaats

We can’t forget chaat the watering chaat stalls in the monsoons offering yummy dahi puri, pani puri, bhel puri and exciting pav bhaji. Chaat bhandars offer taste and variety with something for everyone in the family at a reasonable cost. Gokuls, Koti, Hyderabad, is one of the most famous chat shop in Hyderabad, whereas Bombay Chaat Place, Sainikpuri, Hyderabad, drags people towards its offering of chaats and juices.

Pakoras.

Mouth watering pakoras made of potato, onion, paneer pakoda or baby corn accompanied with tamarind sauce or tomato sauce or say hot and sweet sauce is yet another mouth watering monsoon must-have. A cup of hot tea and a plate of pakoras are an unbeatable combination.

Having it on the streets can leave you with an upset stomach. Try places like Pakodi Factory in Hyderabad.

Hot soup.

Hot soup

A steaming hot soup with a dash of minced garlic is a must. Veg Manchow Soup or Hot and Sour soup can be the best you can opt for. The greatest advantage is that it gives that much-needed warmth.

It can also be a substitute for a meal for those who are not able to work out because of the rains. Nankings, Bowl o’ China have multi-cuisine soups.

Corn on the cob.

Corn on the cob

While on the way back home, you see a stall where the vendor is heating corn on the cob. The sight and the aroma of it will definitely drag you towards the stall. Here, choosing a right corn is a challenge.

Don’t go for those that are already heated. While picking up a corn, press your nail on a corn kernel. It should neither be too soft nor too hard. Ask the vendor to heat it and apply lemon juice and salt over it. Nothing can be more refreshing than having a hot corn on the cob on a rainy day. Corn on the cob is widely available in any part of the city, whereas the best one can be found at Maredpally, Hyderabad.
