Tirupati: Police arrested Siva alias Swamy who cheated people by luring them of double their cash offered in the Lakshmi pooja, conducted by him, here on Friday.

A total of Rs 1.03 crore including cash Rs 80.29 lakh, a brand new Innova car and one motor cycle and a scooter which he purchased from the booty were recovered.

Speaking to media here on Friday, Tirupati Urban SP Gopinath Jatti said that the fake god man identify the people eager to make quick money, before invite them to the pooja to double their money. In an effort to make the people believe that he is having supernatural power that enabled him to double the cash, he first invite the select few to the demo `Lakshmi pooja’ in which, he using his machinations double the amount offered by them to the Goddess.

Later, he will arrange the special pooja to which he invites the targeted greedy persons keen on make a quick buck. After making the participants unconscious, with the prasadms laced with intoxicants, he decamps with the cash offered in the pooja.


On June 6 this year, he conducted pooja in the house of a realtor and financier RK Yadav in Autonagar locality here, to which his friends and some well-to-do believers took part. They fell unconscious, after taking the prasadams.

But, Siva was forced to leave the place without taking Rs 63.43 lakh offered in the pooja, as one Damodar Kumar, brother of one of the participants Dineshkumar, unexpectedly came there. Damodar, who silently left with the booty, was arrested based on the interrogation of Siva and the entire cash was recovered from his house here today, SP said. Siva took away Rs 40 lakh cash using the same modus operandi from the house of Anand Reddy in Nellore, the next day (June 7). Based on the complaint of Yadav , Alipiri police took up investigation leading to the arrest of Siva, near a poultry farm, on Karakamabadi road by Alipiri CI Rajasekhar and crime police party.

Gopinath said the fraudster was from Vendugampalli in Kuppam mandal, left home after a quarrel with his parents, discontinuing his Intermediate study, along with some cash stolen from his house. He visited Ashrams and Swamijis in Tirupati, Bengaluru and places in Kerala and learnt the nuances of cheating from the so called Swamijis. He had so far cheated up to Rs 3 crore.
