AP capital panel submits report
The Sivaramakrishnan Committee, appointed by the central government to identify capital for residuary Andhra Pradesh, submitted its report to the Union Home Secretary Anil Goswami in New Delhi.

Hyderabad: The Sivaramakrishnan Committee, appointed by the central government to identify capital for residuary Andhra Pradesh, submitted its report to the Union Home Secretary Anil Goswami in New Delhi.
Sources said the panel made few suggestions but did not identify any particular region where the capital should come up. However, it made some reservations on the Vijayawada-Guntur region, which has been almost finalised by the State government.
The committee in its report said availability of land was an issue in Vijayawada-Guntur belt since the area was endowed with fertile land where multiple cropping has been going on. The cost of acquisition would be high and the loss of farm land would lead to the issue of food security, it felt. However, the committee has left the final decision to the AP government, the sources said.
It is learnt that the committee recommended the AP government to adopt the decentralisation of the development of the state and provide platform for the holistic development of the state. The development of the backward North Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions should be taken into active consideration for the development of the new state, the report said.
In an earlier interaction with the media, the committee chairman had hinted that “Bhubaneswar model” within the country would be more appropriate to be emulated for constructing a capital for AP. He added that Bhubaneswar should be a reasonably successful model as it was not just a collection of government offices, but amalgamation of host of activities.
The focus needs to be however on development of all the 13 districts as growth centers which would lead to decentralization, lessen the burden on the capital city, he suggested.
Another committee appointed by the State government and headed by Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban development P Narayana to identify the capital, is yet to submit its report.
