Hyderabad: The Congress party has strongly criticised the Telangana State Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s decision to send some more elected representatives to the Singapore.

Speaking to media, the Deputy CLP leader in Telangana Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir accused KCR of acting like the brand ambassador of Singapore, rather than facing the challenges ahead with sensibly.

He questioned the rationality in comparing Telangana with Singapore, as its model could not be implemented due to various factors. He asked the Chief Minister to realise the variation among the resources of Singapore and Telangana.

Amongst other factors, Singapore has one of the five busiest ports in the world. But Telangana does not have a coastline and its economy was mainly driven by Agriculture, he pointed out.

He said Singapore was also the world's third largest casino gambling market after Macau and Las Vegas. “May be KCR wants Telangana to become the gambling hub of India,” he ridiculed.

Shabbir wondered if it was the Singapore’s semi-authoritarian regime, which gave little freedom to press and suppressed civil liberties had attracted him.

He took a dig at Chief Minister, whose insistence on nativity does not match with the demographic set up in Singapore.

“Nearly 23 per cent of the Singaporean citizens are foreign born. If KCR wants to adopt Singapore model, then he must change his stand on pre-1956 condition for nativity,” he mocked.
