Hyderabad: The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee has been put to test by the party high command. AICC president Sonia Gandhi has served an ultimatum and told them to either perform or perish.. According to party sources, Sonia has made it clear that neither she nor Rahul Gandhi would campaign during the by-election and it would be the responsibility of leaders like Ponnala, K Jana Reddy, Damodara Rajanarasimha, N Uttam Kumar Reddy and J Geeta Reddy among others to ensure that the party candidate Sunitha Laxma Reddy wins the polls. Sonia made it clear that if the party loses the bypoll, then the leaders should be ready to quit the posts.

Sonia Gandhi is said to have told them that the AICC would take up a massive revamp of the party unit in the state and weed out dead wood. On the contrary, the BJP national president Amit Shah, TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu and TS CM K Chandrasekhar Rao will campaigning for their parties.
Top sources said Sonia is angry with the TPCC leaders for their failure in preventing the Congress MLAs form switching over loyalties to TRS. Congress MLA from Mudhole G Vital Reddy and six Congress MLCs including Legislative Council Deputy Chairman N Vidyasagar Rao joined TRS recently. Another MLA from Illandu K Kanakaiah also announced his decision to quit Congress.
