Food and Civil Supplies Minister Paritala SunithaHyderabad: The Chandrababu Naidu Government has put off the launch of Anna Canteens.

State Food and Civil Supplies Minister Paritala Sunitha said at a press conference on Tuesday a fresh date for the launch would be announced after consulting Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

Sunitha denied reports that organisations like ISKCON and ‘Akshaya Patra’ had been selected for implementing the programme. She said modalities for the scheme were still being worked out.

The Minister is likely to visit Tamil Nadu on Spetember 18 for studying the scheme in depth.

She said bogus ration cards would be eliminated by linking them with Aadhaar cards with e-pass machines, which were being used in Tamil Nadu.

Sunitha said the name of ‘Amma Hastham’ programme would be changed and the ration under the scheme would be increased. She faulted the implementation of ‘Amma Hastham’ programme by the previous Congress government. She had found stocks worth Rs. 70 lakh unutilised at Kadapoa warehouse during her inspection, she said. The stocks were not lifted perhaps due to some fears, she remarked.

She announced that 5 lakh new Deepam connections had been sanctioned and Rs.80 crore was released for immediate connections. She expressed concern at the sorry state of ‘Rythu Bazars’ which were a brain-child of Naidu.
