New Delhi: The United States on Tuesday extended "deepest sympathies" to the flood affected people of Jammu and Kashmir and pledged $250,000 as relief and other help.

Charge d'Affaires Ambassador Kathleen Stephens announced that the US intends to provide $250,000 to select NGOs through the US Agency for International Development (USAID) in response to the needs of the people affected by the disaster.Stephens reiterated the US' commitment to help those affected by the floods.

The organisations, which include Save the Children India, Care India, and Plan India, will use these funds to provide emergency relief, including temporary shelter and non-food relief supplies, to thousands of families in remote villages severely affected by the floods, the US Embassy said.
