Hyderabad: In a strange incident in Hyderabad, the cash door of a State Bank of Hyderabad ATM in Sanjeeva Reddy Nagar opened on Friday, revealing huge cash to the shock of three students who went there to withdraw a mere Rs 200. The incident was immediately reported to the police by them.

The youth Lateef, Durga Prasad and Shiva Prasad, aged between 22 and 23 and belonging to Mahabubnagar, stay at a nearby hostel. They went to the ATM in the night to draw money. When they tried to withdraw the money, they became flabbergasted as the ATM developed a technical problem and the cash chest came out. They contacted the bank’s customer care centre which could not be of much help. Then they dialled the police control room number ‘100’ and related the incident. Soon, a police party arrived at the spot and recovered about Rs 25 lakh cash. The police closed the ATM and informed the bank officials. An investigation is on to find out who is responsible for the mistake. It is believed that the personnel of the agency, which loads the cash, had perhaps failed to lock the ATM door properly. SR Nagar Police Sub Inspector Ajay said, “We shall reward the boys with appreciation letters from the DSP for their honesty.”
