Hyderabad: The Met office on Saturday issued a warning to fishermen of Andhra coast not to venture into the sea in view of the strong surface winds blowing from the north-western direction with the speed reaching 45 to 50 kmph along and off the north coastal Andhra Pradesh under the influence of the low pressure system lying in the north-west adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal. Winds of similar speed are also likely along and off the south coastal Andhra Pradesh.

Consequently, heavy rain will occur at one or two places in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East and West Godavari, Krishna, Guntur, Adilabad, Nizamabad, Khammam, Nalgonda, Ranga Reddy, Warangal, Karimnagar and Medak districts during the next 48 hours.Moderate to rather heavy rain or thundershowers will occur at many places in coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Light to moderate rain or thundershowers will occur at a few places in Rayalaseema.

The Met report said the southwest monsoon had been active in coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The system lay as a well-marked low pressure area in north-west Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, north coastal Andhra Pradesh and west central Bay of Bengal. Rain occurred at many places in Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and at a few places in Rayalaseema. Chintalapudi in West Godavari district and Manugur in Khammam district received 13 and ten cm of rainfall on Friday. The chief amounts of rainfall (in cm) were: Chintur 8, Jukkal, Tiruvur, Dummugudem 7 each, Aswapuram, Chandrugond 6 each, Araku Valley, Sompeta, Machilipatnam, Aswaraopet, Sathupalle, Kukunoor 5 each.
