A festival collection of more than 100 varieties of carpets imported from Egypt, Turkey, Bulgaria, Armenia, Persia (Iran), China, Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan and France were launched by Mayor Majid Hussain at Carpet House, Bazaarghat, on Sunday.

Carpet House, a sister-concern of the century-old Mohammed Cap Mart, opened the expo with Dasara, Bakrid and Diwali collections just in time for the festive season. Plush and profusely designed carpets, which adorned the living rooms in opulent families depicting their sense of lifestyle and aesthetics, by virtue of uncompromising quality at economical pricing, are now affordable by the common man.

Available in exhaustive styles including flat weave, hand weave, handloom, textured patterns, these carpets range from Rs 1,500 to Rs 35,000 in different sizes.

“We have some of the finest carpets on display. Besides variety for the economical collection, we have luxury carpets collection with prices up to Rs 1,74,000 a carpet”, said Ilyas Bukhari, the proprietor of Mohammed Cap Mart.

These exquisite carpets, made of wool, silk, nylon or polyester are available in lush range of bright and attractive colours in traditional weaves to modern art and conservatively corporate designs reflecting elegance, skilled craft and meticulous workmanship.

Besides rendering the ornamental charm, carpets have been known for their health benefits. A plush carpet not only acts as cushion pad for children and aged people by minimising foot fatigue but also improves the air quality by trapping dust and reducing its circulation in air by acting as a passive air filter. In the winter season, woolen carpet serves as a thermal insulator to give a warmer feel to the interiors.
