- RTC running 3,335 buses
- SCR running 12 special trains during festival season
- Private bus operators hike fares by 50 per cent
The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) is running 3,335 buses to various cities and towns all over Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The maximum number of buses is to Karimnagar, Vijayawada and Adilabad.
Many software professionals have taken leaves for a week. As a result, many private bus operators are raking in the moolah. Several private bus operators have increased the fare. Murali Mohan, a businessman, says, “I have to spend extra Rs 2,400 for three members. We cannot skip the trip to our home town.” HSC Bose, president, AP Private Bus Operators Association, says, “The increase in fare ranges from 15 to 50 per cent; some operators have also increased the fare by 70 per cent. But it is just for a day.”
Meanwhile, people wishing to travel by train have something to cheer about as 12 trains were put into service by the South Central Railway (SCR) to Machilipatnam, Kakinada, Vishakhapatnam, Vijayawada and other stations.

SCR has also set up extra ticket counters and encourages passengers to use e-ticketing, Janasadharan Ticket Booking Sevaks and Automatic Ticket Vending Machines.
The RTC ran 1,800 buses on Tuesday, 1,300 on Wednesday and would press into service another 400 today. Vinod Kumar, regional manager, Ranga Reddy said that people living close to LB Nagar need not go all the way to MGBS and JBS, but can board the bus at an additional point at LB Nagar.
A senior official of the RTC said that the corporation is ready to put into service additional buses if need arises. With Gandhi Jayanthi, Dasara, Bakrid coming up in the next few days, people in the city are in a holiday mood. Those who are not going to their home towns are planning short vacations.
