Hyderabad: A diploma holder in mechanical engineering, Battula Jagadish, has come up with an innovative electric power generation machine. Christened his effort as 'Muscle Energy Enviro Mission (MEEM), he wanted to provide a solution to the farmers facing power crisis in Telangana State and in the country.

Based on the simple principal of converting mechanical energy into electrical energy, he designed a machine which could be pulled with a pair of bullocks in an area of 100 to 150 square feet, and generate electricity to run a 5 HP motor, to irrigate agricultural lands.

The bullocks move in a circle like in the traditional oil mills by pulling a yoke tied to them which is connected to the machine. The moment the bullocks start moving in the circular form, the mechanical energy generated would instantly get converted into electrical energy.

Against the normal requirement of three unit s of electricity per hour to run a 5 HP motor, using MEEM, a farmer could generate up to nine units per hour. The surplus power of five units per hour generated could be sold through 'net metering', and it provides additional income to the farmers, Jagadish said.

Putting his innovation to demonstrate how it could bring wonders to the power- perched famers in Telangana, he said, there were two variants of the machine. While the 12.5 Kv machine could generate power to run a single motor, the 20 Kv machine could run two to three motors, he added.

The overall generation coast per unit would be a meager 20 to 30 paise per unit and this has the edge over other alternative power generation methods like Solar, Wind, he claimed. Keeping in view the power troubles being experienced in the villages of Telangana State, Jagadish wanted to come up with a one mega watt power generation
machine to meet the much needed energy demands of the rural communities in the State.

However, as the initial coast of a 12 Kv machine comes with a price of Rs 2 lakh, he wanted the State government to come forward to provide subsidy to the farmers to purchase his machine.
