Dr P Raghu Ram, president elect of the Association of Breast Surgeons of India and director of KIMS-Ushalakshmi Centre for Breast Diseases, was conferred fellowship by the American College of Surgeons on Sunday. The honour was bestowed upon him by Dr Carlos Pelligrini, president of the college, at the 100th convocation ceremony held during the Annual Congress of American College of Surgeons at Moscone Centre in San Francisco.

Being conferred the fellowship means that the surgeon's education and training, professional qualifications, surgical competence, and ethical conduct have passed a rigorous evaluation and have been found to be consistent with the high standards established and demanded by the college, which has a membership of close to 80,000 surgeons.

Overwhelmed Raghu, who aims at improving the art and science of breast surgery in India, says, “This rare honour of obtaining fellowships from all the Surgical Colleges in the British Isles (Edinburgh, London, Glasgow, Ireland) and from the American College of Surgeons at a very young age has been a Godsend reminder to rededicate my mission to work alongside likeminded colleagues to improve the art and science of breast surgery and develop breast healthcare in India.”
