Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to observe June 2 as the Andhra Pradesh Formation Day. The Minister for IT, Palle Raghunatha Reddy, briefing the media after the cabinet meeting, said the decision was taken basing on the government announcement of AP Reorganisation Act which came into being on June 2.

The government would observe it as a state function as it has been doing on November 1 in the united Andhra Pradesh. The government would also observe Karthika Vanamahotsavam as state function every year. A major programme would be organized in Visakhapatnam on November 17 which would be attended by the Chief Minister, N Chandrababu Naidu. “The aim is to plant as many as trees lost in the super cyclone Hudhud,’’ the minister said.

In another major decision, the government decided to provide insurance cover of Rs 5 lakh to the drivers of unorganized sectors under the Aam Aadmi Bhima Yojana benefiting 3, 35,000 drivers in the State. The scheme would cost the government Rs 21.5 crore.

The minister said the poultries in three north coastal districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam, having less than 10,000 birds and damaged in the October 12 cyclone would be each given Rs 15 lakh as compensation. He said the cabinet discussed on the seven missions and reviewed the progress.

In order to increase the revenue from the taxes, the government would be strict on the irregularities and evasion and decided to amend section 20, act 5 of 2005 under which the assesses have to give their annual or quarterly declaration through electronically generated statement. Similarly, the public distribution system would also be revamped to prevent leakages and the special package given to the cyclone-affected people would end from Friday evening. In the agency areas it would continue till November 5.
